Cala d'Or is the main resort in the South-East of Mallorca and one of its largest holiday communities.
The town has rapidly grown in the last few years and continues to expand with many new property developments, especially in the Marina area. It still remains a smart resort however, and its growth has been controlled and still has the feel of an Ibizan style town with low rise white buildings. The resort offers no less than seven pretty coves, all rock sheltered and fringed with pine trees, with Calas Ferrera, Esmeralda and Serena lying North of the centre and Cala Gran being the largest of the coves. Perhaps, however, Cala d'Or beach, around which the village originally centred, in a quiet residential area, is the prettiest. Apart from its lovely bays, Cala d'Or is a low-key, up-market resort which offers to the tourist and the resident alike an endless choice of dining and entertainment facilities. The main focal point of the town is its large pedestrianized area full of restaurants , bars and shops and south of the town you will find the exclusive marina known as Cala Llonga and the Cala d'Or Yacht Club opened in 2005. The marina effectively splits the town in two, as the areas known as Cala Egos and Es Forti are located on the far side of the marina.
